Point Loma Marina

Point Loma Marina is the newest marina in San Diego. It is located at America’s Cup Harbor on Shelter Island. Point Loma Marina is nestled in the foothills of Point Loma, giving it a quiet feel with a metropolitan touch. The Marina is located  southwest of Liberty Station, along N. Harbor Drive, just blocks from Point Loma Village.

The Marina is situated on toward the northeast side of the San Diego Bay, about 3 miles away from the open ocean.

A promenade stretches across Point Loma Marina, beginning at the marina and moving along the water, offering a host of fine dining restaurants, boat yards, shops, and other marine activity related shops. The Promenade is one of the most popular along the San Diego coast and has won two prestigious awards – The Community Beautification award from the Point Loma Association and The Orchids and Onions award for beautiful architecture.

The Marina offers several types of amenities such as laundry, storage facility, vessel pump out, and restroom services. There are 8 boat yards for facilitating boat storage throughout the Marina. A highlight is the Dock ‘n Dine facility at the marina for boaters to dock their boats and dine with a cool breeze and great views. There is also a ‘’pick & drop” service available at Point Loma Marina via a water taxi.

 

Dining and Shopping Centers – Point Loma Marina

Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern is among the most popular and frequented dining places in Point Loma. The place is known for serving a variety of  American regional classics. Jimmy’s prides itself in approaching the regional dishes from an ‘’artisanal” point of view; serving freshly prepared food, handcrafted in small batches using high-quality ingredients and traditional cooking methods.

 

Situated at 955 Catalina Blvd, Jensen’s Food , is the shopping destination for all things fresh. The market has an array of local, organic, fresh produce, and specialty products.

Right at 4990, N. Harbor Dr is Fraser Yachts, a must visit destination for all yacht lovers. From yacht escaping to yacht management and sales, the place is one stop destination for all things related to yachts.

The Pilates Bay located at 2590 Truxtun Rd. Ste 105 is a one stop destination for all fitness enthusiasts. Though the place is located towards Liberty Station, it has a great locale, situated in the vicinity of many restaurants and shopping places. The center provides cross-training, yoga and other forms of fitness exercises.

Located at 1221 Rosecrans St is Starbucks, the world-renowned coffee chain for all visitors wanting a timely and much-needed coffee break.

 

Local attractions  – Point Loma Marina

There is no dearth of local attractions near the marina for the tourist and the wanderer in you. A few notable attractions are:

San Diego Zoo – This World-Famous San Diego Zoo is just a few minutes away from the Marina and is a wonderful family outing place.

Sea World – Sea World is another popular family amusement park showcasing marine life, located just a few miles away from the Marina.

Balboa Park – This park is the nation’s largest urban park. It is home to beautiful gardens, several performance art venues and to 15 museums making it one of the best places to visit in San Diego. The park also hosts several events, musical performances, and concerts that get the additional touch in this timeless and beautiful setting called the Balboa Park.

 

Fisherman’s Landing

If you are a fishing enthusiast then Fisherman’s Landing is the right spot around Point Loma Marina. Hardly about a 2-minute walk away from (0.2 miles) from the center of Point Loma Marina, the place is an amazing spot for deep sea fishing.

Touted as one of San Diego’s finest sport-fish landing spot, Fisherman’s Landing has been providing enthusiasts and visitors deep sea fishing for 55 years and is still running.

A standout of the place is that it has a variety of fishing activities and trips to quench the adventurous thirst in you. A few types of fishing trips are:

The half-day fishing trip is for those who are short on time but wish to get a peek into fishing and have fun. There is a specific fishing boat for conducting the half-day fishing trip.

The full-day fishing trip is for all enthusiasts that wish to have a complete day of fun, non-stop. It allows for fishing enthusiasts to have the big thrill game of fishing without the commitment of a longer trip.

Long Range fishing trip is undoubtedly the big game in fishing. The trips are usually between 16 to 23 days and often range over 1,000 miles in distance. These trips, sometimes, take the enthusiasts well into the Mexican waters and provide for an amazing adventure over 2 weeks. There are also the shorter versions of the long-range trips such as the 8-12 day trips and the 4-6 day trips.

All boats that undertake the long-range fishing trips are coast guard approved and have well-experienced captains and crew overboard to help with all the necessary requirements of a wonderful fishing trip.

Fun trips such as the Open Party trip covers 1-2 days provides a fun-filled trip along with fishing. The Private Charters allow visitors to opt for private vessels both for fishing and for visiting the nearby Coronado Island. There are about 11 charter boats at Fisherman’s Landing.

 

Overall, the Point Loma Marina and Fisherman’s Landing make for great spots for locals, tourists and fishing enthusiasts. The boat trips, especially, are the highlight even for those who are not into fishing facilitating a wonderful experience of travel out into the ocean.
